This is the ONLY thing you need to know when selecting art for your home.

Although we live in an age of immediate gratification, collecting art for your home should be more of a process, like brewing the perfect cup of coffee, rather than a quick fix.

While some aspects of your home decor benefit from a schedule - for sanity’s sake - art isn’t one of them.

To find art for your home, visit art shows, galleries, and fairs whenever you travel. Browse different artists online and arrange studio visits to see the work in person, so you can see the textures and quality. If that’s not possible, request a video of the pieces from different angles to get a real sense of what they look like in person.

The ONE thing you need to keep in mind?

Simply choose pieces that really resonate with you and that you’ll want to see everyday. It sounds obvious, but many people are influenced by preconceptions about the art world - what they “should” buy, or what someone thinks an artwork is worth - making the journey overwhelming.

Invest in telling your story. This could be as simple as finding colours, patterns or textures that make your heart flutter. Or, you can go deeper - who, and where are you in your life? What’s important to you? Learn about the story of the artwork, the artist, what drives their creative process, and the subject matter.

Our homes constantly evolve as we do and it’s totally ok for your tastes to change. Over time, you’ll find a common thread that ties things together.

Whether you’re starting from scratch or already have an art collection, it's helpful to consult someone to figure out how to place all the pieces so they complement your space, and how to frame or display them to maximize their impact.

Then, you’ll know what spaces in your home need more art, if any, and you can keep an eye out for those pieces that’ll bring joy to your everyday.
